I am Jay Detsky (@jaydetsky on Twitter), a resident in radiation oncology at the University of Toronto, based out of both The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital.
I originally obtained my undergraduate degree in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Following that I completed a PhD in Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto (based out of Sunnybrook Hospital), with my doctoral thesis focusing on better methods to use MRI to image cardiac tissue in people who have had myocardial infarctions, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship pursuing the same research interests.
In 2009 I started as a medical student also at the University of Toronto, and graduated in 2013. Since then I have been a resident studying to become a radiation oncologist, with research interests in magnetic resonance imaging of tumors, hypoxia imaging using PET, and medical ethics. I am also active in teaching medical ethics to undergraduate medical students.
